After February and March recording in the studio, Camens have unleashed themselves on to the summer radar with a string of shows and appearances. This exciting time for the band comes alongside their latest offering ‘On The Walk From The Picturehouse’ which came out on the 5th of May.
2022 was a busy time for Camens, with the band’s three singles ‘Poltergeist’, ‘Illustrator’ and ‘I concede To Worrying’ racking up a solid reception – with over 125,000 plays on Spotify. ‘Jacket Weather’ continued the trend in ’23 with 41,000 streams and ‘ONTWFTP’ looks to follow suit.
It’s uplifting, easy listening indie – powered by crisp guitar lines and a striking lead. That said, it’s flecked with emotion, something the band have worked on in maturing their lyrics and meanings. When discussing the aforementioned single ‘Jacket Weather’, songwriter Scott reflected:
“I love the idea of creating worlds with words and then trying to pick the listener up and take them there”. It’s an approach that bled into ‘Picturehouse’. “The song plays around with the idea that seeing someone you like and then taking them out can be similar in many ways to seeing a trailer before you watch a movie. “In both situations, it’s not until you take the plunge that you'll know if you both “click”, or if the film is all you hoped it would be.”
After grafting at the start of the new year, Camens are now ready to bask in their good work as much as they are the sun. Following last year's tour supports with Florida indie darlings Black Kids and indie pop legends Scouting For Girls, this summer is already shaping up to be a big one, with the band securing slots at Your City Festival alongside Cassia and Calva Louise, as well as Deva Fest's main stage with Feeder and Starsailor. A track the band deems their most accomplished to date, ‘Picturehouse’ looks to continue previous work’s progress, as the group have found admirers with Amazing Radio, XS Manchester and BBC Introducing.
