Your album, 'Wingspan' is out now. How important is it to you that the songs are out into the world? What can listeners expect?
It’s always very important to me to be heard, which is why I’m an artist. For this album in particular, I feel that we have a really positive message to share with people and I really hope fans will feel heard and inspired.
What was the writing process of the album?
Wingspan was written over a period of three years and was a fully collaborative effort from the band with songs being brought in from different people. I always come up with the overall concept/title of an album before we begin writing for it and everything slowly fits itself within the framework.
Which is your favourite song on the album, if you had to choose one?
My favourite song is Hurt the Ones You Love which was written by my brother Aaron and I over 10 years ago and reworked for this album.
Is there an overarching message of the album?
The overarching message of Wingspan is the idea of being larger than you seem and fulfilling your potential.
Which other artists have influenced your songwriting?
Some of my influences would include Lana Del Rey, Nine Inch Nails, PJ Harvey and Queens of the Stone Age.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
Right now I’m really loving Emma Ruth Rundle, particularly the albums Marked for Death and Engine of Hell.
What's next for Hana Piranha?
We’ll be releasing a few music videos soon after this album and we are already working towards the next, as well as planning tours for next year.
