The talented perfectionist Mat Hook recently released his moving and personal new single 'Alone You Go', along with a music video that is a captivating a watch as the track is to listen to.
The former Kartica frontman has taken time to reflect and regroup - channelling his emotions into new, solo material. Written back in 2018, 'Alone You Go' was written during a particularly tough period for Mat - the song has a positive vibe however and is ultimately about trying to see the light at the end of a dark tunnel.
Recorded at 'Tufty's Rave Cave' and produced by Paul Tuffs, this latest single also features Dave Howard of the Sheffield indie band The Hudares Sam Cotterill formerly of Mat's old band Kartica and Matt Dacey formerly the drummer in .Aux Innocent. The vocals were re-recorded several times over a six month period, reflecting Mat's quest for perfection which he certainly has achieved.
The music video for 'Alone You Go' features appearances from former England international footballer Chris Waddle and the world champion boxer Kell Brook. In true DIY style, Mat Hook planned, produced and filmed by himself. The finished video (above) is a testament to his drive and talent.
What is immediate about 'Alone You Go' is Mat's distinctive and authentic vocal. It draws the listener in immediately - as Mat sings in the chorus "cos it's alright...it's alright....'' there is a level of believability rarely heard in a song. To put it succinctly, 'Alone You Go' is a brilliantly comforting single release.
Mat Hook is just starting his solo career and it appears as though the preparation time he has taken has paid dividends. A phenomenal talent, he is also performing live, notably selling out Record Junkee in Sheffield this Saturday night.
