Kasabian singer Tom Meighan in court for assault

Kasabian frontman Tom Meighan appeared in court today and admitted to attacking his girlfriend in a booze-fuelled rage. CCTV showed him hitting the victim and dragging her into the back garden of their home in April.

Meighan's lawyer said that by appearing in court on the charge of domestic attack was a "personal humiliation but he has nobody but himself to blame."

The judge in the case described it as a "sustained attack", Meighan was sentenced to 200 hours unpaid work in the community.

The hearing and case was kept quiet until this morning and Tom Meighans arrest back in April wasn't public knowledge. Yesterday Kasabian said that Tom Meighan was stepping down from Kasabian by "mutual consent" adding that "Tom has struggled with personal issues that have affected his behaviour for quite some time" stopping short from detailing today's court apprearance.

On Monday, prior to the court appearance, the band released a statement that has drawn criticism as some fans were lead to believe that Tom was suffering from mental health issues as opposed to being a domestic abuser. Last night Kasabian released another statement saying "As soon as we found out about the charges against Tom, we as  a band made the decision that we could no longer work with him. Unfortunately we had to hold back this information until he was found guilty in court".
