With the cancellation of pretty much every gig and festival in 2020, a lot of bands who would have put out new music and even albums have seen their development and progress put on hold. Fingers crossed that come early summer we will see the return of some kind of normality and the planned festival season goes off without a hitch and that our own all day gig in Hull on September the 26th goes off without a hitch (more info here). Below we take a look at some of the up and coming bands that are sure to be making waves in 2021.
THE CLAUSE
With two incredible tunes under their belts (Where Are You Now? and In My Element) we are clamouring for new music and dare we say it a full album from the Birmingham band. The confidence and look is all there and so is the songwriting ability - The Clause are our top tip to smash 2021. They are touring the UK throughout the late spring and have a couple of festival dates in August. LISTEN HERE
THE RILLS
Tik-Tok sensations The Rills have really blown up in 2020 and it looks like that is going to continue into the new year. With a London headline show scheduled for July, the band are also going out to support Bears In Trees on their tour. The three=piece will explode this year given the chance. LISTEN HERE
GARDEN PARTY
Garden Party released two singles in 2020, with the most recent, In The Middle, coming in November. The band are playing a date in early April in their native Manchester supporting the Jack Fletcher Band with no doubt more shows being added before long. Garden Party have a self assured sound and a justified confidence - they have appeared on BBC Introducing and their first single, Tomorrow, was well received. LISTEN HERE
JONNY ASH BAND
Having just released their debut EP Blurry Vision, Jonny Ash first caught our eye on debut single Eclipse with its huge wall of sound akin to early The Verve. Rosies followed shortly after before MDMA rounded off 2020 in superb style for the band. They have really picked up a buzz on social media in the past month and there is no reason why 2021 can’t be a triumphant year for the Welsh outfit. LISTEN HERE
FIVE O FIVES
As indie rock bands from The Midlands go, none look as promising as FIVE 0 FIVES. Their debut release Through The Darkness set the tone that the band meant business - second single Something To Do is released on January the 22nd and promises more of the same. FIVE 0 FIVES are a new band that has a very bright future. LISTEN HERE
ROSELLAS
Rosellas have been around for a year or two but with new music heading our way at the end of the month and a headline show at Gullivers, Manchester in July, it appears as though Rosellas are going to get the recognition they deserve in 2021. Their upcoming single Damaged is incredible - 2021 is surely going to open up for the Wilmslow band. LISTEN HERE
