Clicking play on 'Cimmerian' the latest single from Manchester punk rock duo Slap Rash has been the highlight of our morning here at Our Sound Music. The aural assault that is unleashed is invigorating and exciting - the soft beguiling vocal from vocalist (and drummer) Amelia Lloyd draws the listener in - an almost chant like phrasing with sinister undertones before a deluge of wonderful noise is poured on top.
Today it has been announced that the noisy duo have signed with Liverpool's Disobedient Records, joining the labels roster of acts that already includes The Rotanas and Pizza Crunch.
Over the past couple of years, Slap Rash have been turning heads with their vicious live performances, making them stalwarts of the Manchester Underground scene. Signing with Disobedient Records seems to be a natural progression for the band, whose wall of noise sold out their debut headline show pre-lockdown.
On the new single, 'Cimmerian', Amelia comments:
"Cimmerian' follows up from 2019's 'Zone A' and offers an evolution of our sound. We have taken on a darker, more mature persona with this song, with influences of techno and electronic music transcending the genre boundaries of our previous work."
Amelia and Hew Lloyd are Slap Rash, a punk rock duo with intent.
