“The Only One I Know” was The Charlatans' first UK top 10 hit and kicked off an impressive run of twenty two singles in the Top 40 chart. Now the band are re-releasing the single in the form of a music box.
Originally released in 1990, the same year “Some Friendly” their debut album was released via Situation Two (Beggars Banquet’s offshoot label), “The Only One I Know” rapidly became one of the biggest indie club favourites of the Madchester Era and has continued to fill dance floors ever since.
Arranged by Richard Hawley Band’s Jon Trier, the music box version of this infamous track comes with a limited first edition with individually numbered postcard and is due for release on the 20th of September.
When the pandemic hit the UK in March 2020, bringing with it the cancellation of pretty much all live music and national lockdowns, Tim Burgess, The Charlatans lead singer started hosting online listening parties via his twitter account, bringing fans music in a different format.
Tim and guests from featured bands shared anecdotes and insights into the songs and how they came about with over 700 parties being held in the first year alone. This platform allowed music fans across the globe to listen to an album in real time whilst Tim utilised the platform to help support suffering live music venues throughout the UK via the Music Venue Trust charity. “ The Only One I Know” music box release pushes further funds into the MVT charity.
The indie-dancefloor banger “The Only One I Know” by The Charlatans is out as the special music box edition on Monday September the 20th.
