With the thriving music and art scene in Cornwall being dubbed “Kernowfornia”, the latest single by Bailey Tomkinson certainly falls into this category, complete with her own authenticity shining through.
“When The Lights Went Out” sees Bailey let loose more musically and the track feels more like a The Killers-esque anthem. The track has a bigger and rockier vibe than previous releases, in part coming from the decision to take her band to the studio for recording this song. Elements of inspirational artists to Bailey such as Sam Fender and Weezer come across within the track and combine with the Kernowfornia vibe, taking in her local surf and sunny environment of Cornwall.
Narrating the story about times when you think and feel that you are in relationship however the other person doesn’t have the same feelings, “When The Lights Went Out” is about finding out the guy you were talking to is talking to another three girls whilst talking to you.
Receiving excellent praise from Mariella Frostrup (Times Radio), The Daily Mail and Brad Paisley, Bailey has been labelled as “Britain's answer to Taylor Swift” and with her personal and relatable songwriting within “When The Lights Went Out”, justifies this tag perfectly.
