2022 is set to be a big year for Cardiff's Columbia, with their debut album coming our way early next year and a UK tour in March. Before that, however, the indie-rock four piece are finishing their 2021 off in great style, with new single "Glory People".
You could be forgiven for assuming that Columbia hail from the Manchester area, such is the overall vibe and body-moving rhythm, which is reminiscent of the early 90's Madchester scene. The track is full of endearing swagger and bravado, and will surely prove a big hit at live shows.
Recorded at King’s Road Studio, ‘Glory People’ is solidly produced yet an edge of excitement in the sound remains intact. Singer Asha Jane provides backing vocals which really adds a smoothness to the whole affair and as lead-singer Craig Lewis states: " I could just hear a female vocal layered over the chorus.. we stood there in awe at what she’d done - it sounded even better than we expected".
The drums on "Glory People" really drive the whole track, with a textured acoustic guitar adding to the wall of sound. Columbia lead-guitarist Ben Rowlands has tapped into a vibrant and ear-catching lead guitar sound that moves "Glory People" into bona-fide anthem territory.
"Glory People" is the sound of a band poised to take the UK indie-rock scene by the scruff of the neck and not let go.
