On January 28, EELS founder and perennial figure in the alternative rock scene Mark Oliver Everett, commonly known as ‘E’, returns with his long-term project to release new album Extreme Witchcraft.
Preceding the anticipated release, new single “The Magic” offers a glimpse of tracks to come – the garage rock hit presents candid lyrics from E, alongside a gripping underbelly of distorted guitar riffs and seamlessly constructed production.
Eels have been aided in the next chapter of their lauded career with the efforts of PJ Harvey producer and guitarist John Parish, who previously worked with E on the acclaimed 2001 album Souljacker.
Of John Parish, E said this: “John Parish is one of the most even-tempered, polite people I’ve ever met. A true gentleman. Actually, he’s probably THE most polite person I’ve ever met. But when he gets into the studio, he becomes a mad scientist.
“If you make music with John Parish, you get stuff no one else does. He has a really unique toolbox and musical outlook. Perhaps his politeness is a coping mechanism to keep Mr. Hyde under control when he’s out of his laboratory.”
EELS are an ever-fluctuating band, riding atop a sea of talent at the forefront of alternative and indie rock, with the supporting line-up changing often over the three decades since the inception of the project back in 1996.
The current project takes its next step in the Spring of 2022, with EELS set for their latest Lockdown Hurricane tour, traversing across Europe and America to promote new music and continue a long and distinguished career in the industry.
