Words: ROBIN MUMFORD
Inspired by the mood and joy that the Australian summer brings (yes, it’s actually summer in the land down under!), Melbourne-based producer and artist Nightingale provides listeners with a springboard to living life fully through his first release of 2022.
‘Vermillion’ is a lively and elating Piano House/Electronic Dance flavoured track that fans of Paul Woolford, Calvin Harris, and MK will fall effortlessly in love with. Nightingale brings out his playful side in his first statement of the new year, allowing his dream-like lyricism and warm melodies to take over the soul, focussing on the youthful energy and desire to chase memories that summer brings.
Talking ahead of its release, Nightingale explains: “I wanted to capture the buzz I had coming into summer after the year we had here in Melbourne. It was akin to the excitement of coming up to any big event in your life and wanting that time to be precious, joyful, and forever.
“You feel youthful, free, and devoted to making things count. This gave my production and songwriting on ‘Vermillion’ a focus on encapsulating this energy and feeling.”
The track floats through a syncopated dance piano that is underpinned by sunbathed pads, anticipating guitars, and sparkling percussion, threaded by nostalgic vocals that reflect on the willingness to pursue beautiful moments. The listener is positioned to continue relishing these reflections which reach an apex in the chorus where the production is overtaken by a steady house beat that is coated with various textures of synth, akin to what we experience when we take a deep dive into making lasting memories.
‘Vermillion’ is Nightingale’s first release of 2022 and will continue off a streak of consistent releases in 2021 which saw widespread independent media coverage including HypeMachine listed blogs, multiple curated playlist additions, namely Apple Music's editorial playlist 'New in Dance', thousands of Spotify streams and YouTube views, and receiving Triple J airplay for the first time.
With ‘Vermillion’ Nightingale will keep on building on this momentum in establishing himself as the up and coming solo electronic act to watch out for.
