Words: ROBIN MUMFORD
Jon Sandman’s second single off his forthcoming ‘Spooky Action at a Distance’ EP is anchored by textural synth details and spiralling harmonies that are ambiguously lifted by emotional baggage that linger like the sorrow we become encumbered by when we go against our instincts in love.
‘Maybe’ is Sandman’s second release of 2022 as he looks towards unleashing his mountain-sized backlog of unreleased, emotion-charged works of art. Reconstructed from an early demo, the Oxford-born artist paints a sad but hopeful story which encourages us to trust our impulse when it comes to love.
For fans of music who love to feel something, along with going through the motions of a story that ebbs and flows, Jon Sandman creates music that not only tells magnificent tales, but he adds ingredients of electronic beats and orchestral sounds that you would expect of him, having been an acoustical engineering student at the University of Southampton.
As he has told us previously, Jon loves to explore the half-way house between the organic and the electronic, and this has in turn led to a sound that we rarely hear when featuring new music. While he is new to the business in terms of releasing his material, Jon already boasts an abundance of knowledge that can definitely lift him up to bigger and better things in the not too distant future.
