Words: ROBIN MUMFORD
After laboriously working on a new song to create for over a year since their last tune, Day Trip To Monaco have produced and released ‘Morning Coffee’ - a brilliant, laidback delight that the band has self-proclaimed as the perfect soundtrack for a coffee shop vibe.
However, we believe it eclipses the quality of that. It deserves a lot more praise than just background music for your morning routine.
Day Trip To Monaco, which consists of Alex Howley on drums and keyboard, and Megan Gallagher spearheading the vocals, are joined by Josh Hanstock and Ben Hands to unleash a summer-splashed single that is principally characterised by mellow rhythms and pacifying vocals that sweep you off your feet.
‘Morning Coffee’ belongs in a very limited category of stunning releases that genuinely make the hairs on the back of your neck stand tall. Everything that makes the single so unique, from the instrumentals that wave from side to side, to the highly emotive language that fluctuates throughout, converge together in harmony to create an immensely satisfying listen.

The band take independent music to the next level with this release, having made a point of not only producing and releasing their newest single without any extra help, but they’ve also gone out of their way to go the extra mile and produce their own artwork - which, as the band explains, allows everything they produce to reflect them as precisely as possible.
With the band playing their first headline gig at Jimmy’s, Liverpool on Thursday 28th April 2022, there is a lot to be excited about surrounding Day Trip To Monaco. As the main message of ‘Morning Coffee’ resonates profoundly with many, with an introspective look on a past relationship at the forefront of the lyricism, the duo of Howley and Gallagher are quickly staging a meteoric rise in the indie music scene.
