Words: ROBIN MUMFORD
After the instant success of February’s ‘Body Says’, London-based singer/songwriter Salt Ashes refused to take a break, and instead continued to work on her aspirations of creating feel-good music that gets hearts racing and body’s bouncing.
Her latest radiant single ‘Didn’t See It Coming’ showcases her expert approach towards marrying beautiful, dreamlike vocal melodies with huge electronic dance rhythms. It is this marriage that makes way for an atmosphere like no other.
The usual dark swathes of pulsating electronics remain a staple in Salt Ashes' music, but it is also joined this time with the constant pushing and pulling of exhilarating bass and drum action that is weaved into the fabric of an unconventional love song.
As she explains: “Didn't See It Coming’ is my f*cked up version of a love song. It's how an unexpected love managed to pull me away from a way of life I thought I wasn't ready to leave until they slapped me in the face... metaphorically, of course.”
Also known as Veiga Sanchez, Salt Ashes burst into the dance music scene with her first full self-titled debut album back in 2016, which quickly gained popularity worldwide. She has toured with artists such as Tove Styrke, Say Lou Lou, Nimmo, and 80s pop sensation Tiffany.
But as she continues to create her own mind-boggling music, she isn’t far off becoming a household name. While Boomtown and Boardmasters festivals are happening right now, we have to feel that the London-based artist would not look out of place in either line-up.
