Peach Stone is the great release from Indoor Foxes, a solo bedroom project and this is full of energy and gritty guitars. The authenticity shines through; an exciting project that will draw comparisons with Beabadoobee. Peach Stone is our Single Of The Week with tongue in cheek lyrics and 90’s style guitars, this sounds so cutting edge it’s unreal and shows why DIY artists such as Indoor Foxes are the next big thing. She is playing two dates in March across her native Scotland but for now bang this on and prepare to be impressed. Stream here.
Welcome to this week's single reviews where we run through the latest (mainly) indie tunes for you to check out. We kick things off this week with Rise And Call, the new one from Pylon Poets, a trio from Torquay who wear their hard rock influences on their sleeve. Rise And Call ticks all the boxes if that is your thing...The Outcharms are magical on To Be Young And In Love. It is jangly, light hearted and a solid slice of charm...Weekend Debt don’t shy away from their Scottishness on pleasant tune Pomposity. The guitar solo is a thing of beauty tucked away inside bubble wrapped jollyness...Not Now Norman have released Little Cheryl, a basic rock tune with a plodding riff that thankfully picks up during the chorus...Christmas song releases have started it seems and our first of the year comes from The Boy Least Likely To with It Will Still be Christmas. All proceeds are going to charity so what can you say? We’ve heard worse when it comes to Christmas efforts and this ticks all the boxes with its sentimentality..Veterans Bradford release Down Faced Doll (mixed by Stephen Street), a song with a thumping beat and a huge guitar sound...Power Duo First Frontier have out together Landslide, another stormer from the pair who specialise in lofi alternative rock. Kudos to First Frontier for not fitting into any moulds on this and doing so quite spectacularly...The prolific Tropical Boyfriend Catalogue are back already with Gunna Make You A Star, once again demonstrating that the band are happy to bounce from genre to genre in style. This one is an acoustic affair that showcases singer Kami’s vocal..The Clockworks have released Enough Is Never Enough, a slab of punk rock and social commentary that hits the target with a bullet..Jade Bird is back and Headstart hails a new era for the Americana influenced singer songwriter whose debut album was simply astonishing. Headstart is more of a grower than her previous single releases, less commercial or catchy but a foot tapper nonetheless...Crystal Tides certainly have the best song title of the week in Courtney Love. This is straight up pop rock with a mash of synths and guitars complete with an unashamed commercial chorus. The whole thing works...Darling BOY has got a Golden Number on a sleazy and grooving new tune. He’s been around a bit and has a great sound here...Gonzo rock n rollers Tankus The Henge get all brassy with God, Oil, Money a song that has glam rock stomp written all over it. God, Oil, Money is a bold song that pays off...Hope That Kills from As We Leave was released last week but we missed it, an acoustic tune off the Isle Of Wight bands upcoming debut EP. Hope That Kills is dreamy and whets the appetite for the full EP...Indie darlings Blossoms join in on the Christmas song act with a double A-side. Less said about these the better really though fans of the band will likely enjoy both tracks.. and finally Me nd Adam (not a typo) round things off this week on The More I Grow Up, a song full of storytelling and poignancy. It’s the kind of thing early Springsteen would have put out with Ed Sheeran being a more contemporary comparison. It’s not edgy but as lovers of music we can’t deny that The More I Grow Up is a perfectly crafted song.
