NYC Alt Pop rockers The UNCRTN brought out their latest single ‘Forget About Me’ back on the 9th of September. A brilliantly catchy song, it’s one that attempts to relate to its audience as the band continues to rise out from the historic New York music scene.

This tune from the trio of Sonia Rose (Vox/keys), Tyler Magrone (bass) and Chris LoMango (drums) begins with light keys before a memorable verse and chorus follow in quick succession. A clean yet thudding metal-esque guitar and drum pairing contrasts Sonia’s glowing lead vocal, that in the mix offers up a somewhat Haim-like harmony. Feisty fills bellow just under the surface as this song provides a real throwback to early 2000s Alt Pop Rock.

As said at the start, relatable lyricism is one of the song’s strong points too. “Hung around for far too long, in a place I don’t belong. I don’t seem to relate and I can’t bear the weight.” This song is one for the outsider, perhaps befitting a coming of age moment in a teen movie. According to the band themselves, the common theme is one of disgust and apathy to their surroundings.

Constant partying and lack of substance has made them jaded. As bassist Tyler Magrone puts it:

“It’s basically a song about getting away from stuff that brings you down and tries to change who you are as a person. A reflective moment in life when you realize you have stopped connecting with the group of people/friends you have grown up with. That you want no part of the same ideals, thoughts or viewpoints that people close to you have. So you just have to get away from all that toxicity, whether it’s physically or metaphorically.”
