The Kid and I have returned with their new single ‘Free Falling’. Coming out on the 16th of September, this track proves itself as a real fast paced joyride.
From the outset, the speed and intensity is clear. A surging bass line along with a tireless beat puts this song into fifth gear and is certain to be a favourite in live performance. Seemingly, this song keeps up at 100 miles per hour throughout. The repetition of “Running out of time” in the final third marks the end of a crescendo with dramatic falling drums and groaning guitars. That said, although this song has the obvious industrial aspects of an alternative rocky pop song, there are subtleties in the mix. Backing vocals and ambient sounds really add to a tense pent up atmosphere.
Front man and founder Jacob Powell reflected: “For me the idea behind this song was to make something driving from start to finish - that really the drums never stop playing throughout the whole thing and you're taken on a crazy journey. I also wanted to create something that musically was quite simple (there's only like 4 chords total in the whole song) but this allowed the energy to carry throughout the whole track – gradually building and creating a tension that explodes in the end.”
Formed in 2020, The Kid and I are a London based Alternative Rock band that blends pop rock with introspective lyrics.
