'The Gospel of Getting Free' is the latest album by the New York City-based singer-songwriter Lara Taubman.

Released in the summer of 2024, its impact is timeless and has had us gripped well into this new year. This collection marks a significant evolution in Taubman's musical journey, reflecting her personal growth and newfound sense of freedom.

Lara Taubman began her career as a visual artist before transitioning to music. She spent time in the wilderness of Montana which ultimately inspired her to start creating music. The influence of her peers such as Patti Smith and especially Leonard Cohen shine through whilst Taubman maintaining a unique talent. It's as if those mentioned created the path for her to follow and she is now forging her own way.

Lara Taubman's debut album, 'Revelation', arriving in 2020, brought her critical attention and this was followed by two further album releases in subsequent years. Known for her compelling storytelling, which continues with this latest album release, 'The Gospel of Getting Free', which delves into themes of personal transformation, the pursuit of joy and perhaps most importantly - healing. Songwriting can be therapeutic for the artist and this sense of harmony translates brilliantly to the listener.

Taubman says that the album is "a vessel that has brought me home, guiding me out of complex trauma toward my true-self." A form of self-therapy for the artist perhaps that explores themes that listeners can relate to. The standout track 'Sugar' explores addiction and 'The Odyssey' carries a message of hope and resilience, proving that Taubman is not shy to write about darker subjects.

Produced by Steven Williams (and the production here is great; not too polished to allow the authenticity of the songs to shine), 'The Gospel of Getting Free' has elements of both folk and pop. An absolutely perfect blend that makes for a fantastic listen.

'The Gospel of Getting Free" is available on major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music
