Dublin new wave rock band Hook have released 'Best Days', the follow up single to their impressive previous release, 'I Like You'.
Their first release of 2021, 'Best Days' is a fusion of new wave, grunge and punk - a sound that captures a certain anticipation. Recorded in the bands own studio, the track is a true DIY produced release that features panned elements and distorted sounds.
Hook are Eoin O’Donnell (vocals, guitar), Morgan O’Brien (drums) and Danny Spelman (bass, vocals). Forming in early 2019, the band spent most of that year homing their craft; writing, rehearsing and finally recording. Their four track debut EP was released last year followed by the previously mentioned single release, 'I Like You', the song that first put Hook on our radar.
Talking about 'Best Days', frontman Eoin says: "The song is an autobiographical account of being a young person or in college. For some, it's a very lonely and isolating time. Everyone is telling you that these are the best days and years of your life, but more often than not it doesn't feel that way. There’s so many expectations to be social and interesting, but most people in fact have trouble making friends or feeling accepted."
Hook have truly carved out their own 80's new wave rock sound on this release, a song that really does capture a sense of nervousness and foreboding, as does the perfectly matched music video which is released shortly.
'Best Days' is out now on all major streaming platforms. See below to stream the track.
