This collection of tracks narrates the story of a girl and how she sees herself through her own eyes, being full of triumph, trauma, complexity and utter coolness. Retelling tales of her childhood, the EP serves as a coming-of-age story about the heartbreak and traumatic times experienced.
“Pool Party” and “8.20”, previous tracks by Maisyn, highlighted that a real cool girl is one that is open about her innermost identity and makes everyone around them instantly feel they can do the same.
“Pool Party” evoked desires of finding a summer day as celebratory and joyous as opposed to finding it to be a reflection of one’s unordered tendencies and deep rooted fears. “8.20” invited listeners to share in her self love and comfort, understanding and being transparent about the different insecurities people may feel.
“Cool Grl” as a whole sees Maisyn use music as a medium to implore everyone to hold a mirror up to their face and serenade the person they see looking back at them. Each track of the collection explores different aspects in the present and looking back to childhood and are filled with choruses which will run around your head non stop.
